Hola! Bonjour! Salut! Shalom! Namaste! Ni Hao! Aloha! And of course, Hello! It is my honor to be the ESOL teacher at Lee County Primary School. I knew from the time that I was a very little girl growing up in Northwest Florida that I wanted to be a teacher. In my 30 years of teaching I have taught PreK in Florida; Kindergarten in Iceland, Texas and Florida; 6th grade Math & Science in Iceland; and ESOL in Florida and Lee County. I earned my ESOL Endorsement in 2006 while teaching in Florida. I have been teaching ESOL in Lee County for the past 16 years. At Lee County Primary we implement the Pull-Out learning model for ESOL students. This model allows me to work with the English Learner (EL) students in a small group setting for 45 minutes each day for the purpose of language instruction. Through our program, we strive to create a supportive learning environment which values and builds on a students' academic, linguistic, and cultural background.  At LCPS we want to build a strong foundation for the school to home connection that will create a community effort towards our students' success.

The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) English Program in Lee County School System was developed in compliance with federal mandates to ensure that the Limited English Proficient (LEP) students in the school system are provided with appropriate instructional assistance in acquiring the English language skills necessary for full academic participation in a monolingual English classroom. The major goal for each student is to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills so they are successful within the classroom setting and the community.

There are five critical standards for the English Language Learners (ELL):

  • 1) English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Language Arts

  • 2) English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Mathematics

  • 3) English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Science

  • 4) English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Social Studies

  • 5) English language learners communicate for Social and Instructional purposes within the school setting
